Today we were one of the many companies across the world that celebrated FSC® Friday! In order to celebrate the day, we turned our Trade Counter into a promotion for all things FSC, both educating our customers on what it is to be ‘FSC friendly’ as well as running special offers on our timber!
Some of our local customers popped in to see what it was all about and those that did were treated to a woodland themed cupcake for their troubles! It was a great excuse for our man on the Trade Counter, Brett, to indulge in some cake and coffee and catch up with customers!
At Reddiseals, we’re extremely environmentally conscious and providing FSC certified products is one of the ways we do this, take a look at our Accoya® and Tricoya beading ranges for example. Just look out for the products with the FSC logo. Our Environmental Management System (EMS) has also recently been certified against the international standard ISO 14001:2004 – Environmental Management.
The FSC set up FSC Friday a few years ago to raise awareness and it’s still going strong today. Here are some facts you might not know about them…
FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council, and it is made up of over 800 members of environmental, social and economic chambers that have equal say in the decisions of the organisation.
The FSC was established over 20 years ago and state that they currently offer the highest level of protection for endangered species across the world.
The aim of the organisation is to ensure wood, paper and other products that originate in forests are responsibly sourced and that the world’s forests are protected for future generations to come.
As of the 6th September this year, 1413 certificates have been awarded by the FSC and there are 190,582,584 hectares of total certified areas worldwide.
Both the WWF and Greenpeace are members of the FSC.
We’re proud to have taken part in our first FSC Friday and are already looking forward to the next one! Use #FSCFriday on Twitter and Facebook to see what we and others have been getting up to today!
